The Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear 2015 season opener was this past weekend. The weather was beautiful all weekend with temperatures in the 70s. After a morning test session, the drivers got down to business.

SATURDAY POLE POSITIONS

When the green flag dropped on race one, the overall pole sitter Cabot Bigham missed a shift and dropped back to fourth position. Jaden Conwright worked his way to the front, pulled out a three second lead, and maintained it until the checkered flag winning in the Pro Mazda Class. Conwright was the 2014 FormulaSPEED2.0 Champion, and is the VMB Driver Development Pro FM driver for 2015.

SATURDAY PODIUM – PRO FM

In the Formula Mazda class multi-year FCC Champion Bill Weaver was able to get past pole winner Tazio Ottis for the win, and there was some great racing throughout the class. Last year’s Formula Mazda Champion (and also Winter Series FM Champ) Cameron Parsons was behind the wheel of a FormulaSPEED2.0 and was in command from the very start until the end. VMB Driver Development racer Michael Avansino ran the fastest FS2.0 lap, and was challenged for second place a few times by Tao Takaoka.

On Sunday in the Formula Mazda Weaver claimed the pole, and held the front spot the entire race. Wade Leathers and Bruce Carpenter had an epic side-by-side battle in the FM class for much of the race. Cameron Parsons took the pole and win in the FS2.0 class. VMB Driver Development racer Michael Avansino ran right with Parsons the entire race, and ultimately ran the fastest FS2.0 lap of the weekend. In the Pro FM class Jaden Conwright claimed pole, and battled with Hunter Pickett the entire race. At the checkered flag Conwright won with Pickett less than a half car behind him.

“The weather turned out great, we had a handful of great new drivers, and there was a ton of great racing and several position changes in both races,” stated Series Official Jeff Loge. Next event for the Formula Car Challenge is April 18-19 at Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows California.
