January 2011 World Speed Motorsports Update
We don't have an 'off' season...
Happy New Year!
The team is busy as usual, and has a lot planned for January. Here are just a few of the things that are on the World Speed radar for this month:
January 6th-9th: Silicon Valley International Auto Show
The 2011 Silicon Valley International Auto Show drives automotive excitement into the San Jose McEnery Convention Center, Thursday, January 6 through Sunday, January 9 with hundreds of the latest cars, crossovers, trucks and more. From ultra high-end exotics to the latest alternative fuel vehicles, this automotive extravaganza is bigger, with more makes and models than last year, and offers something for families, car fanatics and consumers in the market for a new car.
World Speed will be there showing off a Pro Formula Mazda in the San Francisco Region SCCA display area. WSM won two championships this season in the SFR SCCA using this type of racecar and also won the Racing Driver's Club 4 Hour Enduro in a highly modified Pro Formula Mazda. http://www.motortrendautoshows.com/sanjose/pressrelease/1579
January 8th: Formula Car Challenge Awards Banquet
The top 5 finishers in all classes of the Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear West Coast Region will be honored and awarded their year end prizes at the Official NASA Banquet at Golden Gate Fields in Berkeley this Saturday.
January 21-23: FCC Winter Series Finale Weekend
In late January Auto Club Speedway will host the Triple Header race weekend that is the final weekend of this season's Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear Winter Series. The competition started with an exclusive double header race weekend on November 7th and 8th at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma. From there the series headed to Arizona to compete in a double header at Phoenix International Raceway on December 4th-5th. Currently there is a tie for the lead in the PFM class, and a three way tie for the FM class points lead. Updated points>>
Pre-Season Testing is Scheduled:
World Speed has testing available to all of their open and closed wheel drivers over the next few weeks.
- Infineon Raceway January 13th, 19th, & 26th
- Buttonwillow Raceway Park February 16th & 17th
All of the 2011 dates that WSM has committed to are posted here: http://www.worldspeed.com/registration.html
Drivers can select the dates they are interested in and submit them directly to the team from that page.
FormulaSPEED2.0 Update
In testing the FS2.0 has proved to be quite a bit faster than the official track records for FM, FE, and FC at Infineon Raceway. A few changes for the production cars are expected to increase performance further.
Production updates will also include an integrated steering wheel display built by AiM, and additional driver safety features.
EFCN recently interviewed World Speed about the car and series. A link to the feature can be found below.
WSM Secured Three Open Wheel Championships in 2010
At the season finale in October Frank Cusack became the 2010 SFR Formula Atlantic Champion, and Renny Damon became the 2010 SFR Formula S Champion.
These two championships came only a handful of weeks after Stan Kohls, another WSM driver, locked the Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear PFM West Coast Region championship. All three championships were won with Mazda powered cars on Goodyear Racing Tires.
