On the Road Again...WSM will be competing in three different racing series this weekend. Chris Cumming will be behind the wheel of the #16 Porsche GT3 in the IMSA Challenge races at Miller Motorsports Park. Jason Montgomery will also be competing at MMP, but in the Pirelli Drivers Cup. Renny Damon and Vince Gaddini will be racing in the SCCA Double National event at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in the Formula Atlantic Class. World Speed in The Press: World Speed Motorsports was featured in this month's issue of The Wheel. The Wheel is the SCCA's most honored publication. Stan Kohls is leading the Pro FM class championship in the Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear. Renny Damon is leading the CalClub Formula Atlantic championship, and teammate Vince Gaddini is one point behind him in second. Chris Cumming is currently 8th in points in the Platinum class of the IMSA Challenge, and Jason Montgomery is 10th in points in the Pirelli Drivers Cup. World Speed Rising Star Awards Announced: World Speed Motorsports will be providing test days to two Red Line Oil Karting Championship winners in the all new FormulaSPEED2.0. The prizes will be awarded to one Junior and one Masters champion for 2011. The World Speed Motorsports Rising Star Awards have been helping racers move up the open wheel racing ladder for years. The award includes a free test with WSM, and is presented to up and coming racers that WSM believes have what it takes to become a pro driver. Some of the past winners have included Scott Speed, Joey Hand, Joel Miller, Cole Whitt, Michael Self, Conor Daly, Ryan Phinny, Neil Alberico, Court Vernon, Michael McDowell, Brad Coleman, and Sage Karam. additional info >> World Speed Featured on the new Red Line Oil Website: Long time WSM partner Red Line Oil recently updated their website to include a World Speed testimonial page. The page lists all of the Red Line oil products that WSM uses and recommends. Check out the schedule >> FormulaSPEED2.0 UpdateLots of new drivers have been testing at Infineon and Thunderhill Prototype testing is complete, and the FS2.0 is now in production. A lot of new people have been getting behind the wheel lately, and experiencing the all new design. Thunderhill Raceway President David Vodden, TrackMasters President Doug Gale, & Formula Mazda competitors Ted Idlof and Stew Tabak all tested the car in April. Three more drivers are scheduled for testing within the next two weeks. Videos and photos of the April test sessions have been posted to the FS2.0 website, and also to the new FS2.0 Facebook page. 2011 Formula Car Challenge presented by GoodyearGrowing nationwide, and supported by Goodyear and Mazdaspeed![]() The Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear has been taking over the nation. Last season the series held events at Infineon Raceway, MSR-Houston, Texas World Speedway, Thunderhill Raceway Park, Road Atlanta, Roebling Road, Grattan Raceway, Summit Point Motorsports Park, Virginia International Raceway, Blackhawk Farms, Texas Motor Speedway, Eagles Canyon, Miller Motorsports Park, and Road America. Two of the 2010 FCC events had 35 cars on the grid making them the largest open wheel races in the country. "We had two events last year with that many cars, and we expect the same number of racers for the 2011 season," noted Series Official Ben Hettema. The West Coast Region is partnered with Goodyear, Mazda USA, MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development, Red Line Oil, and NASA Pro Racing. |
