Carrio Charges in Montreal

June 11, 2005 Montreal, Quebec.

Adrian (Ace) Carrio demonstrated that he has what it takes to run up front in the Star Mazda series this weekend in Montreal as the series warmed up the track for the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Canada. Unfortunately Carrio did not take the checkered flag do to a last lap incident with James Hinchcliffe while battling for 5th place.

“This is an amazing track and experience,” said Carrio about the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, “we only had one dry session prior to the race but I was able to learn the track quickly and felt competitive running in the lead pack.” The first practice session of the weekend was wet with almost all drivers opting for rain tires. The second and final practice was dry and became very important for car set up and driver knowledge. Carrio’s times in the final practice put him 8th fastest in the 42 car field but with the grid for the race being set based on points he would start the 45 minute race 9th after the stewards assessed a penalty against Marco Andretti moving Andretti back to 10th.

“The entire World Speed Motorsports team had a great weekend,” said team owner Telo Stewart, “Frank (McCormick) and Patrick (O’Neill) both had great races and while we would have liked to take home a top five finish with Ace we know he has what it takes and can’t fault him for driving hard.” This was Carrio’s second race with World Speed Motorsports this year and the team members are all working well together and looking forward to the next race in Colorado Springs on the high banked one mile oval of Pikes Peak International Raceway.

Round four of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear from Montreal Canada will air on Speed TV Sunday July 3rd at 11:00am EST; check local Speed Channel listings at www.speedtv.com to see this or any Star Mazda race.
