World Speed Drivers Move Up the Ladder

World Speed Motorsports Alumni continue to show up on podiums all over the country. In sports cars, open wheel, and prototypes these drivers have taken their WSM experience and parlayed it into top-level results.

Michael McDowell who won multiple races in World Speed’s FormulaTR 1600 car won the Daytona Prototype finale in Mexico, and also competed in the last two events of the Champ Car World Series 2005 season. Pierre Ehret who ran multiple seasons with WSM in the Star Series, won the GT class at Daytona this year and has been running in Porsche Super Cup supporting F1 events for the last couple of seasons.

Mario Moraes who competed and won in the WSM FTR 1600 car in 2004, is currently competing in the same South American F3 Championship that brought Ruebens Barichello & Helio Castroneves so much success.

2001 World Speed Star Mazda Champion Scott Bradley raced in the World Challenge Touring Car Championship and also the 2005 Formula Drift series. Scott recently accepted the position of Sales and Marketing Manager for the Star Mazda Series.

World Speed’s 2003 FormulaTR driver Brad Coleman was brilliant in the 2005 Rolex 24 finishing 7th with Team 16. Ace Carrio who was also a member of Team 16 drove a partial season with WSM in the Star Mazda Series, and finished 7th in the final standings. Ace is currently testing with WSM in preparation for next season.

Guy Cosmo ran the full season in the Grand American Cup Series, and participated in the Rolex 24 in GT. Guy finished 5th in the Grand Am Cup event at Daytona. Guy is currently racing LMP2 in ALMS. Cosmo was a World Speed Toyota Atlantic driver during the 2001 season.

Alex Figge who won races while racing Formula Mazda with WSM, and competed with the team in Toyota Atlantic has entered the Daytona Prototype series for 2006.

2001 WSM Toyota Atlantic driver Andy Lally helped the Pontiac GTO-R win the championship its first year out in Grand Am GT.

Past WSM Rising Star Award winners are also making headlines. 2002 winner Scott Speed has been racing in GP2 and testing in Formula 1. Alan Scuito who won the award in 2003 finished on the podium in his first Toyota Atlantic race. Ryan Phinny who was awarded a free test day with WSM last season made it to the top two in the Red Bull Driver Search this year.
