2007 Schedules Announced
WSM to Compete in 3 Mazda Powered Series November 17th, 2006 World Speed Motorsports has announced plans to compete in three separate series for the upcoming season. All of the series feature the current spec Pro Formula Mazda, and the team competed in all three of these series in 2006. The team will be returning to defend its championship in the 2007 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. The 2007 schedule will run on four temporary circuits and eight permanent road-courses. The series will be the headline event once again for the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres and will be a supporting event for five American Le Mans Series events, four Champ Car events, one Grand Am Daytona Prototype event, and two combined American Le Mans and Champ Car weekends in Houston and Road America. All races are at venues with large paid attendance, and will be televised on Speed Channel. The Russell Pro Series powered by World Speed Motorsports is headed into its third season, and the team is expecting to have more than 20 cars vying for the championship. “We tested the Russell Pro Series concept in 2004 with a handful of races and the growth since then has been explosive,” stated Team Manager Mark Milazzo. “We have increased our staff, improved our procedures, and we are moving into a state of the art facility over the winter so everyone here is really pumped up for next season.” All the RPS races take place at Infineon Raceway during the Russell Racing School race weekends. For 2007 the West Coast Star Mazda Championship has improved with not only the usual club level races, but major events with Champ Car, and ALMS. This series should have some serious competition as all Star Mazda teams are invited to compete for points, and prize money. “In 2006 Goodyear helped back the series with a good number of free tires, and Star Mazda came through with $10,000 in prize money for the series , stated WSM owner Telo Stewart. “The series gave our drivers even more flexibility if they wanted to drive more often, and at different race venues.” Schedules listed here>>
