World Speed Alumni Update
Nov 8, 2006
Sonoma, CA

World Speed Motorsports Alumni continue to show up on podiums all over the world. In sports cars, open wheel, and prototypes these drivers have taken their WSM experience and parlayed it into top-level results. World Speed drivers are currently racing in ALMS, NASCAR, Champ Car, IRL, and Formula One.

Adrian ‘Ace’ Carrio who just won the Star Mazda Championship with World Speed this season has already tested in an Indy Pro Series car with Sam Schmidt Motorsports, and is scheduled to test with Forsythe in Atlantic, and Crawford in Daytona Prototypes as he makes some important decisions about where he will compete in 2007.

Michael McDowell who won multiple races in World Speed’s FormulaTR 1600 car has been winning in Grand American Daytona Prototypes, and Grand Am Cup the past two seasons, and also ran two events in Champ Car. Late in 2006 McDowell began racing stock cars in ARCA, and his plans for 2007 will be in the stock car arena.

World Speed’s 2003 FormulaTR driver Brad Coleman was competing in the ARCA series in 2006, and won in only his second race of the season. It is expected that Coleman will return to stock cars for next season.

Mikel Miller who won numerous races in the Star Mazda Series with WSM in 1997-1998, and raced in the WSM Atlantic car, won the Grand American Cup finale in 2006. Jeff Bucknum who ran with WSM during the same era competed in the 2006 Indy 500, and is planning on running the entire Indy Racing League schedule for 2007.

Alex Figge who won races while racing Star Mazda with WSM, and competed with the team in Toyota Atlantic is entered in the 2007 Champ Car series with Pacific Coast Motorsports.

In 2006 Pierre Ehret competed and won in the Porsche Sports Cup Series in Europe, he is also a winner of the Rolex 24 hour race at Daytona. Pierre spent two seasons with World Speed racing in the Star Mazda Series.

Guy Cosmo raced in the Grand American Cup Series, ALMS P2, and Daytona Prototypes in 2006. If there was a sports car event happening this season you could almost expect to find Cosmo there. Cosmo was a World Speed Toyota Atlantic driver during the 2001 season.

2001 WSM Toyota Atlantic test driver Andy Lally won the 2006 Rolex GT championship in a Racer’s Group Pontiac GTO-R.

Mario Moraes who competed and won in the WSM FTR 1600 car in 2004, is currently competing in the same South American F3 Championship that brought Ruebens Barichello & Helio Castroneves so much success.

2001 World Speed Star Mazda Champion Scott Bradley raced in the World Challenge Touring Car Championship and also the Formula Drift series the past couple of seasons. Bradley spent 2006 as Sales and Marketing Manager for the Star Mazda Series, and also did all the test driving for the series.

Past WSM Rising Star Award winners are also making headlines. The award, which was presented to top level karters, included testing with WSM. 2002 winner Scott Speed has been racing in Formula 1 with Scuderia Torro Rosso. Alan Scuito who won the award in 2003 finished on the podium in his first Toyota Atlantic race, and competed the entire 2006 seasonwith Polestar. Ryan Phinny who was awarded a free test day with WSM in 2004 made it to the top two in the Red Bull Driver Search, and competed in FBMW and Star Mazda in 2006.

World Speed Motorsports is currently training tomorrow's champions. Interested parties should contact the team to discuss 2007 opportunities.
